PUBLIC MEETING SPONSORED BY JOINT EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TEAM AND ROC

HOW CAN WE BE BETTER PREPARED?”

November 21st, 2018 at 7PM

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency developed JEM’s (Joint Emergency Management teams) as a way for citizens to assist with planning and preparing for emergencies from within the local communities. Neighbours helping neighbours when they are needed most.

NOW we need your help. We are all familiar with the adage that ”It won”t happen to us” but Mother Nature is changing. As our summers get hotter, the risk of fire is high in our beautifully treed communities. Changing weather patterns also increases the risk of bigger storms that can leave communities crippled or with the need to evacuate quickly. So it can happen to us!

We are inviting you to attend a Public Meeting at the PRCC on November 21st at 7pm to hear about our plans to work with local communities to begin developing evacuation routes from the many subdivisions that run off Highway 333. During this meeting you will learn more about the role of the JEM team in your community; how the community of Westwood Hills (at Exit 5) worked with Halifax Fire and Emergency to develop the first ever evacuation plan within HRM and how we intend to use this process to begin working with our communities to do a similar thing. We can’t do it without you so that is why we are asking for your help with this.

Please come out to see how you can assist us in developing these evacuation plans.
