Halifax - OmniGlobe Networks to serve HRM

In the news...

The Province is pleased to welcome OmniGlobe Networks to the Broadband for Rural Nova Scotia initiative. OmniGlobe joins EastLink and Seaside Communications to ensure that broadband is available province-wide by the end of 2009. Through OmniGlobe, approximately 1,300 unserved civic addresses scattered throughout rural HRM will have access to broadband. At that point, Nova Scotia will be one of the most connected jurisdictions in North America.

Based in Montreal, OmniGlobe specializes in remote and complex Internet connections. It is a Canadian global telecommunications company that has wireless Internet projects in a number of countries and offices in the United Kingdom, Ontario and Quebec. Currently it is expanding into British Columbia and Nova Scotia.

Engineering and site acquisition work will begin immediately. HRM residents who would like more information on the availability of OmniGlobe Broadband should visit the company's website. There, you can subscribe to a mailing list to receive information as it becomes available. If you wish, you can contact the company by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Barb Allens Retirement Party at ECO

{rsg2_display: 43, micromacro}
The staff and board at the Resource Opportunities Centre (ROC) would like to congratulate Barb Allen on her retirement as Managing Director of the ROC!!

Barb, a well known member of the community, has worked tirelessly on many projects, boards, committees and other volunteer initiatives, to the benefit of everyone in the community.

She was one of the founding members of the Terence Bay and Area C@P Site (now the ROC) as well as a key proponent in the planning and development of the proposed Prospect Road Community Centre .

Barb has also worked closely with the Seniors Network to ensure our seniors have an active social life.

Although we are confident that Barb will remain an active volunteer at the ROC and within the community as well, her regular presence at the ROC will be missed by all. Enjoy your Retirement Barb, You've Earned it!!

Note: Barb’s last official day at the ROC is Friday, August 9th. Send her congratulations by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

WRWEO and the Trust Work Together

Almost ten years ago the Nova Scotia Public Lands Coalition identified the area bounded by Highways 103 and 333 as an “endangered space” proposed for wilderness protection. (See the site map for “Five Bridge Lakes” at www.publicland.ca.) Because of their great natural, historic, and recreational value, there has been significant public support for protecting these lands. About this same time, the Woodens River Watershed Environmental Organization (“WRWEO”) began to conserve and protect the lands and waters in this area and later established the Bluff Trail, a wilderness hiking trail, at its center. Four years later, the Five Bridges Wilderness Heritage Trust (“The Trust”) was formed for the principal purpose of protecting these lands for appropriate recreational, educational, and scientific use. Now the two environmental organizations working together have formed a coalition of like‐minded organizations to support their common objective.
