Otter Lake Review Should Have Wider Scope - Iain Rankin
Written by Iain RankinIt is rare to achieve unanimous support in the Nova Scotia Legislature such as the vote to keep the Front End Processing and Waste Stabilizing Facility in place for the Otter Lake landfill.
The result is telling of what the overwhelming consensus of constituents all over Nova Scotia is. The Three Party caucuses are far removed from the surreptitious goals of HRM staff. These are the same constituents of the many HRM Councilors who voted to spend more money to begin the consultation process, with the guise that there are ‘some’ recommendations in the Stantec report that should be considered and that it is important for the community to ‘express’ their views. The community affected has a right to be suspicious after watching some Councilors all but endorsing the report, while rashly suggesting this is not going to be another Sackville. In other words, since it won’t be a complete dump from the 1980’s, we should be content with reducing some of the safeguards.
