Following public consultation, a recommendation on HRM’s 16 new polling district boundaries for the 2012 Municipal and School Board elections has been proposed. The recommendation to be forwarded is Scenario 1 (as presented to the public) with two substantial and several minor revisions coming from the public consultation. A regional and 16 district maps which outline the recommended boundaries are provided. Read more.... and see maps... http://www.halifax.ca/BoundaryReview/ The recommendation will be before Regional Council on Tuesday October 18th to be forwarded to the NSUARB by Friday October 21, 2011. The NSUARB will hold public meetings on the boundary submission forwarded by HRM. Residents will have an opportunity to speak at that time should they wish. To do so, individuals may make either written submissions or sign up to speak at the evening portion of the hearing, which will be held on Monday, November 7th at 7 p.m. Written submissions or requests to speak must be made to the NSUARB by Friday, October 31, 2011. After a busy summer for all Fall activities are starting up again. The September Meeting of the Council of Community Organizations(COCO )will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 at the Prospect Rd Community Centre, 2141 Prospect Road, Hatchet Lake. The host group is the Resources Opportunity Centre ,Barbara Allen will chair the meeting. There will be lots of updates on activities such as the HRM Review of HRM Plan of 2006, opportunities to engage in ongoing protection of public lands especially islands, the Five Bridge Lakes Candidate Wilderness Area will soon receive its designation and with that milestone will come further engagement with the community members for its use. Councillor Reg Rankin will be able to give us an update on Drysdale Bog . Come join us and share with us what is going on in your community. The Resource Opportunities Centre (ROC) has prepared a letter to The Municipal Clerks Office - Halifax Regional Municipality. Given the history and successes of the communities from Goodwood to West Dover working collaboratively as a cohesive larger community, the ROC is strongly recommending that whatever the new configuration of electoral districts looks like, that the communities from Goodwood up to and including West Dover, along the Prospect Road be kept intact as one polling district. Join the ROC Board of Directors for a Community Conversation The Resource Opportunities Centre (ROC) will be hosting a Community Conversation on Wednesday, 4th May 2011 at 7:30pm in the multi-purpose room at the Prospect Road Community Centre. Everyone is welcome! We want to hear from you. Are you enjoying the new Community Centre? Are there other programs and services you would like to see offered at the facility? Would you like to teach a class? Do you have ideas about what else we need at the Community Centre or in the Prospect area? If you are not using the Community Centre, we would like to hear why. Since opening the doors of the Prospect Road Community Centre last summer the facility has been a hive of activity with programs for all age groups.
